Below are some prompts and exercises to help you build courage when you're afraid of the unknown.

Review

What specifically about the unknown makes you uncomfortable? Is it uncertainty, lack of control, not being able to plan, having too many possibilities, or something else?

How much do you usually need to know about the outcome of a decision before making that decision? What do you normally do when you don't have enough information to get there?

What % (0-100) of certainty and predictability would you say is your comfort zone? How does that compare to how much certainty you actually have in your project right now?

Think about a time when something completely unexpected happened and turned out to be better than you could have planned or imagined. What did the unexpected make possible?

If you knew with 100% certainty that everything was going to go how you wanted it to go, how would it go?

Practice

Delegation: make two lists - the things you can control and the things you can’t.

Tear off the things you can’t control list and get to work on the things you can.

Dump It: set a timer for 10 minutes and think of a specific question or situation you're currently desperate to have an answer to. Write out every possible outcome, every worry, every idea, every thought that enters your brain about it.

And then move on to something else.

Be Curious: think about all of your unknowns and write down as many questions about them as you can think of. The unknowns can be big or small, personal or universal, related to your project or completely unrelated. Don’t try to answer them. Just keep asking questions. Try to approach each of these unknowns with wonder and curiosity rather than letting your mind try to find a solution.
