Below are some prompts and exercises to help you recover your inspiration when you’ve fallen off track.
Review
What were you most excited about when you first got started? What was your biggest motivator? Which parts still excite you and which parts don’t?
When did you first notice yourself losing momentum? What was happening around you or to you at the time?
Perhaps you’re not off track and your vision/destination has just evolved. What might exploring that look like?
What has taken you by surprise in the process? Have there been both positive and negative surprises? How have you dealt with those and how are they influencing you now?
What all has changed since you started - both inside and outside of the project? Think about your interests, general life circumstances, priorities, and the way you see the project.
Practice
Keep/Change/Lose: go back to your original plan and turn it into these three lists:
Keep: what still feels right
Change: what no longer feels right
Lose: what you need to let go of
Map it Out: draw a fork in the road and come up with three different paths/versions for the future trajectory of your project to choose from. Sketch out what might be found along each of those paths. Which one gives you the strongest feeling?
Reconnect: make a list of everything that inspired your original plan - the people, places, experiences, ideas, stories, problems, conversations, anything that sparked your interest.
Are there any crossovers or through lines? What might these be telling you about what matters to you at your core?
