Below are some prompts and exercises to help you refresh your inspiration when you need to shake things up.

Review

What feels too familiar right now? Where have you fallen into something more like a hamster wheel than a routine?

Think about the last time you did something outside of your comfort zone. How did that make you feel? Is there anything uncomfortable you’ve been avoiding putting into practice?

Are there any self-imposed rules you are currently following a little too closely? Which ones could you bend or break?

Who is someone you admire? What is it about the way they think, work, or live that inspires you? Is there anything you could borrow from their approach?

What if you removed all restrictions from what you're working on? What would the biggest, boldest version look like? Assume anything goes.

Practice

Exposure: go somewhere you wouldn't normally go. See a kind of film you'd usually never choose, visit an exhibit outside your usual interests, listen to music you've never heard, attend an event you'd normally scroll past.

Put yourself in the path of something unfamiliar and see what it sparks.

Opposites: write down five of your favorite stories (books, films, shows, games, whatever comes to mind.) Now imagine a version of each that is the complete opposite.

Is there anything within any of these opposite versions that you find interesting?

Catalyst: introduce one completely unexpected element into your current project. Change the medium, scale, audience, location, subject, collaborator, or constraint.

Don’t worry about whether or not it works, just observe what changes and how.
