Below are some prompts and exercises to help you grieve your missed the target.

Review

What hat exactly are you grieving? The thing itself, the time you invested, the money you spent, the future you imagined, the version of yourself you were becoming?

What did this mean to you? Why did you want it so badly? What did you hope it would change or make possible?

What are you disappointed about? Let yourself be completely honest. What did you wish had happened instead?

What are you angry about? Was something unfair, out of your control, badly timed, or simply not what you were promised?

What would you need to let go of to be able to accept things not going how you’d imagined they would?

Practice

Write a Eulogy: pretend you’re holding a funeral for your missed shot. Write and deliver it a eulogy sharing everything it was and wasn’t in the time it was permitted to exist on this earth. What will you miss about it? Give it a proper goodbye.

Dear Future Me: imagine a future version of yourself who has it all figured out. Write that person a letter about where you are today and the loss you’re currently going through and how it might shape that future version of you.

Sad Playlist: treat your missed shot like a bad break-up and make the saddest playlist you can come up with. Name it after whatever you failed at.
